Drug treatment outpatient New york
Outpatient drug treatment programs vary in the types and intensity of services offered. Low-intensity outpatient drug treatment programs may offer little more than drug education and counsel. Other outpatient drug treatment models, such as intensive day treatment, can be comparable to residential programs in services and effectiveness, depending on the individual's characteristics and needs.
All in all, the ultimate goal of an outpatient drug treatment is to help the individual recover from drug addiction so that they may re-enter society and lead responsible, successful drug and alcohol free lives.

Twelve steps New york
The 12 steps that underlie these programs are based on traditional spiritual practices. Respect for all religious traditions is expected in these programs. While a few individual meetings may show a tendency toward a specific religion, this is not in the spirit of true 12-step recovery. You should have no problem finding meetings and groups that respect all religious traditions and do not push any particular theology or belief system.
Residential Treatment and Rehabs cannot officially call themselves "12 step programs" because Alcoholics Anonymous and the programs that have branched from that group (Narcotics Anonymous, for example), cannot promote themselves. The traditions require anonymity and their only "promotion" is by way of example (how the members live their lives).
"The Fellowship has adopted a policy of "cooperation but not affiliation" with other organizations concerned with the problem of alcoholism."

Cocaine treatment New york
Those who try cocaine often get hooked to it short-term effects, namely feeling that they have increased energy. The intense high keeps users feeling energetic and an increased endurance in physical activities. New cocaine users often wish to boost productivity at work and in other areas of their lives so that they can work longer and harder. Even if these results seem attracting in the beginning, increased tolerance and dangerous life choices often follow repeated use.
Another effect, appetite suppression, is widely popular for people looking to lose weight or maintain a low weight. Fashion models have been known to use cocaine for that purpose. Cocaine users often go days without eating and if this becomes a habit, it may lead to addiction. Faster heart rate, blood pressure, confined blood vessels, dilated pupils, and higher temperature are all short-term physiological cocaine reactions. When consumed in large quantities, cocaine will accentuate the user's high and may cause violent and bizarre behavior.

Crack cocaine treatment New york
As stated in the National Household Survey on Drug Abuse, people of all ages use crack cocaine. It is estimated that 6,222,000 United States citizens aged 12 and older used crack at least once in their life. However, crack cocaine use amongst high school students is a specific problem. Nearly four percent of seniors in the United States used it at least once in their lifetime, and over one percent used crack cocaine in the last month, according to the University of Michigan’s Monitoring the Future Survey.
This hazardous drug is extremely addictive. Addiction develops more rapidly when the drug is smoked, as crack cocaine, than snorted, as powdered cocaine usually is. In addition to the usual consequences associated with cocaine use (constricted blood vessels; increased temperature, heart rate and blood pressure; and risk of cardiac arrest and seizure), crack cocaine users may experience acute respiratory problems such as coughing, shortness of breath and lung trauma and bleeding. Smoking crack may also cause violent and paranoid behavior. This drug is illegal. Here are some of its street names: candy, cookies, grit, hard rock, ice cube, product, rock(s), snow coke, and troop.

Heroin treatment New york
According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse there are presently 600,000 heroin addicts needing therapy. This drug has several serious health hazards associated with its use, such as HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis C, Fatal Overdose, Collapsed Veins and Infectious Diseases.
Aside from the attenuating effects of long-term use, the heroin user will most probably suffer from these three factors: Tolerance, Addiction and Withdrawal.
Tolerance means that the more a person uses heroin, the more that person has to take to get the high. This drug has a high rate of tolerance, which makes it that much more addictive and hazardous. Once a physiologic dependence happens, the user becomes addicted. As more low-priced, high-quality street heroin becomes more accessible, addiction can happen within the first few uses. A very troubling aspect of heroin dependence is the withdrawal period. Among users, it is called dope sickness. With long-term users, this can become a daily exercise in desperation. Withdrawal may happen as early as two hours after the last use. Symptoms include drug craving, restlessness, insomnia, cramping, vomiting and diarrhea, cold flashes and kicking movements (hence the term kicking dope). These occur most visibly between the 48 and 72 hours following the last use and may continue during a week or more. Amidst long-term addicted users, withdrawal could require hospitalization as it is occasionally fatal, although to a lesser degree than barbiturates and alcohol.

New york drug problems
Drug Situation: New York City has long been home to several drug trafficking organizations. The city's large, diverse andmulti-class population creates a demand that these organizations are more than willing to deliver. It also acts as the origin for organizations that smuggle drugs to other East Coast destinations and to Canada and Europe. Because of successful drug initiatives and enforcement operations performed in the New York metropolitan area, several drug traffickers are moving their illicit operations to the upstate area to earn greater profits, elude law enforcement, and avoid competition from rival drug groups.
Cocaine: Colombia-based distributors are still supplying New York's top cocaine rings, dominated by Dominican violators. These traffickers routinely smuggle in multi-hundred kilogram shipments of cocaine to New York and then distribute it in smaller amounts through many networks in the metropolitan region. Most of the drug entering New York is smuggled in by cars from large distribution centers in border areas (Texas, Arizona, California, and Florida). Crack cocaine is easily available in poor areas in all major New York cities, along with some suburban and semi-rural areas, and is sometimes a source of violence in upstate cities.
Heroin: Heroin is readily accessible from Colombian, Chinese , and Dominican organizations operating in the New York metropolitan region. Most of the heroin in New York is coming from South America. Colombia-based traffickers bring some of the purest heroin in the world to the streets of New York, using similar distribution methods and money-laundering expertise they perfected in obtaining the cocaine market. Sometimes, the same organizations are distributing both cocaine and heroin.
Methamphetamine: Overall, methamphetamine trafficking and abuse in New York State is a less alarming problem than heroin, cocaine, crack, and MDMA. However, methamphetamine availability may increase, particularly upstate, as local labs become more prevalent. Seizures of low yield, humble methamphetamine labs are increasing in rural New York, particularly in the vicinity of Albany and Syracuse. Mostly using the red phosphorous method, these lab seizures have greatly increased since 2000, from less than 10 per year in the late 1990s through 2001, to 40 in 2002 and 16 through the first three months of CY 2003.
Club Drugs: MDMA (Ecstasy) is easily available throughout New York and still is the drug of choice at nightclubs, rave parties, and on college campuses. New York has had tremendous increases in the importation, trafficking, and abuse of MDMA. Belgium and the Netherlands are the major source locations, with important transshipment through Canada. Currently, organized crime groups, mainly controlled by Israeli traffickers, lead the importation and distribution of MDMA in New York.
Marijuana: Most of the marijuana arriving in the New York City area, and some upstate regions, appears to be transported via air freight or vehicles from Florida or the southwestern United States. Large amounts also enter via commercial overnight package services. Upstate areas receive marijuana from the Southwestern United States, and there are consecutive reports of local indoor grow operations. Canada is also the origin of a significant quantity of marijuana entering New York State, mostly indoor grow marijuana.
Other Drugs: New York still experience high levels of importation, trafficking, and abuse of MDMA (Ecstasy). Belgium and the Netherlands remain the main sources of manufacturing and exporting MDMA. Currently, organized crime groups, many dominated by Israeli traffickers, control the importation and distribution of MDMA in New York.
