Drug treatment outpatient West Virginia
Outpatient drug treatment programs vary in the types and intensity of services offered. Low-intensity outpatient drug treatment programs may offer little more than drug education and counsel. Other outpatient drug treatment models, such as intensive day treatment, can be comparable to residential programs in services and effectiveness, depending on the individual's characteristics and needs.
All in all, the ultimate goal of an outpatient drug treatment is to help the individual recover from drug addiction so that they may re-enter society and lead responsible, successful drug and alcohol free lives.

Twelve steps West Virginia
The 12 steps that underlie these programs are based on traditional spiritual practices. Respect for all religious traditions is expected in these programs. While a few individual meetings may show a tendency toward a specific religion, this is not in the spirit of true 12-step recovery. You should have no problem finding meetings and groups that respect all religious traditions and do not push any particular theology or belief system.
Residential Treatment and Rehabs cannot officially call themselves "12 step programs" because Alcoholics Anonymous and the programs that have branched from that group (Narcotics Anonymous, for example), cannot promote themselves. The traditions require anonymity and their only "promotion" is by way of example (how the members live their lives).
"The Fellowship has adopted a policy of "cooperation but not affiliation" with other organizations concerned with the problem of alcoholism."

Cocaine treatment West Virginia
Cocaine is a powerfully addictive stimulant substance. The powdered, hydrochloride salt form of cocaine can be snorted or dissolved in water and injected. Crack is cocaine that has not been neutralized by an acid to make the hydrochloride salt. This form of cocaine comes in a rock crystal that can be heated and its vapors can be smoked. The term "crack" refers to the crackling sound heard when it is heated.
Cocaine is a powerfully addictive drug, cocaine normally makes the user feel euphoric and energetic. Common health effects include heart attacks, respiratory failure, strokes, and seizures. Large amounts can cause bizarre and violent behavior. In rare cases, sudden death can occur on the first use of cocaine or without any warnings thereafter.
Young adults 18 to 25 years old have the highest rate of current cocaine usage, compared to other age groups.

Crack cocaine treatment West Virginia
Since crack is an already prepared form of freebased cocaine, the user does not have to buy the equipment or be exposed to the explosive chemicals related to freebasing. Crack is most usually packaged in vials or plastic bags and sold in small quantities, normally 300-500mg or enough for two to three inhalations.
In the past , cocaine was a rich man's drug, due to the large expense of a cocaine habit.
Today, crack is being sold at prices low enough that even adolescents can afford to buy it. But, this is misleading, since once a person is addicted to coke, his "habit" often increases, and so does his expense.

Oxycontin treatment West Virginia
The most serious risk associated with OxyContin is respiratory depression. Because of it, OxyContin should not be combined with other drugs or substances that slow down breathing, such as alcohol, antihistamines (like some cold or allergy meds), barbiturates, or benzodiazepines.
Other common side effects include constipation, nausea, sedation, dizziness, vomiting, headache, dry mouth, sweating, and weakness. Toxic overdose and/or death can occur by taking the tablet broken, chewed, or crushed. Individuals who abuse the substance (by removing the time-release coating) will experience effects for up to 5 hours. The rush that is felt is opiate like a sedate, euphoric feeling.
Using OxyContin chronically can result in tolerance to the substance in which higher doses of the medication must be taken to receive the initial effect. Over time, OxyContin will be come physically addictive, causing an individual to experience withdrawal effects when the substance is not present. Effects of withdrawal include restlessness, muscle and bone pain, insomnia, diarrhea, vomiting, cold flashes with goose bumps, and involuntary leg movements.

Methamphetamine treatment West Virginia
Methamphetamine, or crystal meth, is a highly addictive substance that can be manufactured by using products commercially available anywhere in the U.S. The chemicals used in producing meth are extremely volatile, and the amateur chemists running makeshift labs -- often in hotels or areas where children are present -- cause deadly explosions and fires. The by-products of meth production are extremely toxic. Meth traffickers display no concern about environmental hazards when it comes to manufacturing and disposing of meth and its by-products.
The effects of meth, or crystal meth, on humans are profound. SAMHSA is currently testing the effectiveness of various treatment regimens for methamphetamine, an addiction that is extremely difficult to treat. The stimulant effects from methamphetamine can last for hours, instead of minutes with drugs such as crack cocaine. Often the methamphetamine user remains awake for days. As the high begins to wear off, the meth user enters a stage called "tweaking," in which he or she is prone to violence, delusions, and paranoia. Many methamphetamine users try to alleviate the effect of the meth "crash" by buffering the effects with other drugs such as cocaine or heroin. Like heroin and cocaine, meth can be snorted, smoked, or injected.

Club drugs treatment West Virginia
Ecstasy is used most often by young adults and adolescents at clubs, raves (large, all-night dance parties), and rock concerts.
Its abuse is increasingly reported in the 20 metropolitan areas in the U.S included in the CEWG.
In Kings County, Washington, a recently completed survey of young male who have sex with men showed that MDMA was among the frequently used drugs (20 percent of the sample).
In the city of Boston, a 1996-97 survey of public schools in Boston found that about 14 percent of male and 7 percent of female 12th graders had used MDMA in their lifetime. Increased use of MDMA among youth was also reported in the city of Seattle.
Information about MDMA from other CEWG areas include the following:
-
In Atlanta, MDMA is reported as a popular stimulant.
-
In Chicago, it's use is common in the rave and club scenes, especially in the North Side.
-
In Miami, large-scale sales of drugs such as MDMA are occurring at raves.
-
In New Jersey, it is available across the state, particularly in college towns.
Commonly referred to as Ecstasy or XTC, MDMA was first synthesized in 1912 by a German company possibly to be used as an appetite suppressant. Chemically, it is an analogue of MDA, a substance that was popular in the 1960s. In the late 1970s, MDMA was used to facilitate psychotherapy by a small group of therapists in the United States. Illicit use of the drug did not become popular until the late 1980s and early 1990s. MDMA is frequently used in combination with other substances. However, it is rarely consumed with alcohol, as alcohol is believed to diminish its effects. It is most often distributed at late-night parties called "raves," nightclubs, and rock concerts. As the rave and club scene expands to metropolitan and suburban areas across the United States, MDMA use and distribution are increasing as well.

West Virginia drug problems
Drug Situation:Largely rural, West Virginia's most pronounced drug problems involve the abuse and clandestine manufacture of meth, marijuana consumption and cultivation, and pharmaceutical drug diversion and abuse. Cocaine, crack and MDMA are available in most areas of West Virginia. Drug distributors in West Virginia are only placed to take advantage of sources of supply from both nearby eastern cities like Baltimore, Pittsburgh or Washington, DC as well as large mid-western cities such as Columbus, Ohio and Detroit, Michigan.
Cocaine: Cocaine hydrochloride and crack cocaine are widely available in most West Virginia state cities. Crack cocaine abuse normally remains confined to low and low-middle income people, but crosses all ethnic lines. There is some violence associated with the crack cocaine trade in the state. Cocaine availability is limited to large-retail or small-wholesale quantities. Source areas for cocaine are more varied than for other illicit substances consumed in West Virginia and are largely based on the trafficker's location within the state.
Heroin: Both the demand for and the availability of heroin are very limited throughout West Virginia. Small enclaves of long-term heroin addicts exist, who rely on one another to procure supplies of heroin from secondary source cities such as Philadelphia and Baltimore. The heroin sold in West Virginia typically retains the street/brand name and packaging of the Philadelphia or Baltimore-area supplier.
Methamphetamine: Clandestine methamphetamine laboratory activity in West Virginia has increased threefold in the past several years. Previously, methamphetamine manufacture appeared to be centered in the Panhandle region of the state, but has expanded to include other areas of northern West Virginia as well as some clandestine laboratory sites in the southeastern portion of the state bordering Kentucky and Virginia. In addition, methamphetamine distributors in West Virginia often share Mexican sources of supply with distributors in Virginia's Shenandoah Valley region.
Club Drugs: There is increased demand for MDMA throughout West Virginia, but abuse remains fairly concentrated near Morgantown, the location of West Virginia University. Demand for MDMA in college towns is sufficient to ensure that thousands of the pills reach West Virginia every month. Because of West Virginia's remote terrain, the area is purported to host numerous private "rave" parties but attendance at large-scale, publicized raves has been disappointing to promoters.
Marijuana: Both imported and domestic, locally-cultivated marijuana pose a serious drug threat in West Virginia. Although the state ranks 37th in population in the U.S., West Virginia consistently ranks in the top ten states for marijuana eradication. West Virginia commonly serves as a source area for domestic marijuana. The Appalachia HIDTA was established initially to combat marijuana cultivation in the tri-state area - Ohio, Kentucky and West Virginia - although that mission has expanded.
OxyContin and Other Prescription Drug Diversion: West Virginia abusers of the pharmaceutical drug OxyContin garnered a great deal of media coverage in the past year or more. West Virginia, along with neighboring and nearby states Virginia, Kentucky and Tennessee, were among the first areas in the United States to experience widely-publicized problems with OxyContin diversion and abuse. Pharmaceutical drug abuse in general, however, has always been an enormous concern in West Virginia, particularly in the southern region.

Drug Identification Section

Trafficking and Seizures
Drug dealers in the state are uniquely placed to take advantage of sources of supply from both nearby eastern cities, such as Baltimore, Pittsburgh, and Washington, D.C., and large mid-western cities, such as Columbus and Detroit.
Seizures of clandestine methamphetamine laboratories have risen dramatically in the past numerous years. In the past, methamphetamine production was believed to be principally focused in the Panhandle area of the state, but has since expanded to include other areas of northern West Virginia as well as some southeastern sites.
In 2005, there were 213 methamphetamine labs seized in West Virginia, an increase from 17 in 2001.
About 3.8 kilograms of cocaine were seized by Federal agencies in 2005.
In 2005, over 57,000 cultivated cannabis plants were eradicated under the DEA's Domestic Cannabis Eradication/Suppression Program.
