Drug treatment outpatient South Dakota
Outpatient drug treatment programs vary in the types and intensity of services offered. Low-intensity outpatient drug treatment programs may offer little more than drug education and counsel. Other outpatient drug treatment models, such as intensive day treatment, can be comparable to residential programs in services and effectiveness, depending on the individual's characteristics and needs.
All in all, the ultimate goal of an outpatient drug treatment is to help the individual recover from drug addiction so that they may re-enter society and lead responsible, successful drug and alcohol free lives.

Twelve steps South Dakota
The 12 steps that underlie these programs are based on traditional spiritual practices. Respect for all religious traditions is expected in these programs. While a few individual meetings may show a tendency toward a specific religion, this is not in the spirit of true 12-step recovery. You should have no problem finding meetings and groups that respect all religious traditions and do not push any particular theology or belief system.
Residential Treatment and Rehabs cannot officially call themselves "12 step programs" because Alcoholics Anonymous and the programs that have branched from that group (Narcotics Anonymous, for example), cannot promote themselves. The traditions require anonymity and their only "promotion" is by way of example (how the members live their lives).
"The Fellowship has adopted a policy of "cooperation but not affiliation" with other organizations concerned with the problem of alcoholism."

Cocaine treatment South Dakota
Through the use of sophisticated technology, scientists can actually see the dynamic changes that occur in the brain as an individual takes cocaine. They can observe the different brain changes that occur as an individual experiences the "rush," the "high," and finally the craving of cocaine. They can also identify parts of the brain that become active when a cocaine addict sees or hears environmental stimuli that trigger the craving for the drug.
Researchers know that certain kinds of experiences, such as those involved in learning, can physically change brain structure and affecta person's behavior. Now, new research in rats shows that exposure to stimulant drugs such as cocaine can impair the ability of specific brain cells to change as a consequence of the drug experience.
“The ability of experiences to alter brain structure is thought to be one of the main mechanisms by which the past can influence behavior and cognition,” says NIDA Director Dr. Nora D. Volkow. “However, when these alterations in brain structure are produced by substances of abuse, they may lead to the development of compulsive patterns of drug-seeking behaviors that are the hallmark of addiction.”

Crack cocaine treatment South Dakota
Crack cocaine works on the automatic nervous system. The automatic nervous system controls the sympathetic system which speeds things up such as heart rate and breathing. The autonomic nervous system also controls the para-sympathetic system which does the exact opposite (slows things down). This explains why individuals become hyper when the smoke crack cocaine. Crack cocaine works by causing the brains neuro transmitters to release all the dopamine at once (dopamine is a chemical element in the brain which releases feelings of pleasure). When we laugh, a slight amount of dopamine is released and this makes you feel very good. After this dopamine has been released, crack cocaine can block the re-uptake of the dopamine in some cases. If this happens, the person will now make it a mission to get back any kind of pleasure.

Hydrocodone treatment South Dakota
Vicodin, Lortab--and more than 200 otherdifferent products that contain hydrocodone--are regulated by state and federal laws. But they are not controlled as closely as other similar powerful painkillers. The lack of regulation makes them vulnerable to widespread abuse and addiction of the medication through forged prescriptions, theft, over-prescription, and "doctor shopping." Hydrocodone pills have been sold for $2 to $10 per tablet and $20 to $40 per 8 oz bottle on the street.
Subject to individual tolerance, several medical experts believe dependence or abuse can occur within one to four weeks at higher doses of Hydrocodone. Published reports of high profile movie stars, TV personalities and professional athletes who are recovering from Hydrocodone abuse are grim testimony to its debilitating effects.

Methamphetamine treatment South Dakota
Methamphetamine comes in many forms and can be smoked, snorted, orally ingested, or injected. The substance alters moods in several ways, all depends on how it is taken.
Immediately after smoking the substance or injecting it intravenously, the user experiences an intense rush or "flash" that lasts only a few minutes and is described as extreme pleasure. Snorting or oral ingestion produces euphoria - a high but not an intense rush. Snorting produces effects within 3 to 5 minutes of administration, and oral ingestion produces effects within 15 to 20 minutes.
As with similar stimulants, meth most often is used in a "binge and crash" pattern. Because tolerance for meth occurs within minutes - meaning that the pleasurable effects disappear even before the substance concentration in the blood falls significantly - users try to maintain the high by binging on methamphetamine.
In the 1980's, "ice," a smokable form of methamphetamine, came into use. Ice is a large, normally clear crystal of high purity that is smoked in a glass pipe like crack. The smoke is odorless, leaves a residue that can be resmoked, and produces effects that may continue for 12 hours or more.

Club drugs treatment South Dakota
MDMA (ecstasy), Rohypnol, GHB, and ketamine are among the substances used by teens and young adults who are part of a nightclub, bar, rave, or trance scene. Raves and trance events are usually night-long dances, often held in warehouses. Many individuals who attend raves and trances do not use club drugs, but those who do may be attracted to their usual low cost, and to the intoxicating highs that are said to deepen the rave or trance experience.
For the third and fourth quarters of 2003, hospital emergency department mentions were estimated at 2,221 for MDMA use, 990 for GHB, and 73 for ketamine.*
